Professional Writing

My editing, rhetoric, and professional communications classes taught me proper writing styles for a number of formal settings.

In one editing class, I helped prepare a recommendation report for a manuscript written by Dr. Henry Eyring (soon to be published by Deseret Book). The report focused on content editing--strengthening the focus, increasing audience awareness, tightening the organization, and so on. I also helped to edit an MLA guide, The Washburn Family History, and numerous essays, letters, research papers, and résumés (see below). |

For my last four semesters at BYU-Idaho, I worked at the school's Writing Center. While helping each writer become aware of a piece's shortcomings, I gained a keen eye for recognizing problems of focus, audience awareness, organization, tone, sentence structure, grammar, and spelling. This experience proved invaluable as it helped me to hone my own writing skills. |
