Page Design
This section shows writing and design merged together into a final product--one which pleases the eye yet delivers the intended message in a simple way.
Using the Adobe Creative Suite, I formatted and designed the layout for three books, a magazine, a movie poster, and an music album. (One of these was a contracted project, while the others were school or personal work.) These can be previewed and purchased at my online bookstore.

Kronos was a historical magazine for children created by myself and three other students in a Rhetorical Studies class. (Although it was a group project, only my own work is displayed here.) The cover was designed using Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. A condensed version of the magazine (featuring only the spreads designed by me) may be viewed here or purchased at my online bookstore.

The table of contents reflects the motif of the magazine. The letter from the editor was designed to look like a hand-written letter, to be more attractive to a younger audience.

Again, the imagery in this spread is kept strong in order to capture the imaginations of a younger target audience.

This spread included hand-drawn illustrations to give children a simple, step-by-step visual. The illustrations were drawn by hand, scanned, digitized in Adobe Illustrator and finalized in Photoshop.

A full 3-foot poster designed for a fan-film by Tevya Washburn. The design required integration of many photographs (and faces) into an overall composition that retained a specific focus and flow. (See www.JandJAdventures.com.)

Artwork created for a friend's debut album. As the text in the center is exactly symmetrical, it is also readable upside-down.

In the summer of 2005, I was hired to write, compile, and design the J Ballard and Barbara Washburn Family History. A 6x9" hardback edition was published online. The final product can be purchased at my online bookstore.

The text included four major sections, each with its own chapters and numbering. This required extensive knowledge of Adobe InDesign to set up the varying headers and footers with titles, subtitles, and page numbers.

For an honors class, I published a 140-page, perfect-bound paperback compilation of my essays. I designed the cover art and an advanced text-block with varying headers and footers. The final product can be purchased at my online bookstore.
